Permit Details: The Snohomish Public Utility District Number 1 (PUD) is proposing to install two new poles and replace 157 of the existing 250 poles and approximately 6 miles of overhead conductor lines along a 10-mile-long project corridor adjacent to State Route (SR) 530 in Snohomish County, Washington. The existing wooden poles to be replaced vary from 40 feet to 50 feet in height and many have exceeded their design lifespan or otherwise need to be replaced. The replacement poles are being relocated within the existing Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) SR 530 right-of-way (ROW) or easements to meet safety standards and will consist of wood, fiberglass and ductile iron that range from 50 feet to 60 feet in height. The poles to be removed will be disposed of at a jurisdictionally approved facility. The project also includes removing and replacing existing conductor wire from over the Boulder River, Little French Creek, Fortson Creek and five small unnamed streams. The wire will be removed using equipment stationed on both sides of the waterbody. Wire will not be allowed to touch the water surface and there will be no equipment below the ordinary high water mark (OHWM) of the waterbodies. The primary purpose of the project is to comply with mandated safety control zone which is intended to reduce the number of car-pole accidents along state highways, such as SR 530.
