Applied Form + Space was founded by Jim Thornhill and Luis Lobao, reasserting a longstanding partnership between the principals and their commitment to the art and craft of architectural design and construction management.

With over 40 years of combined professional experience, the principals of aF+S possess a deep knowledge of architecture and construction in all phases of professional architectural service and construction management. An aF+S principal is intimately involved with each project from initial design concept through construction administration.

Accreditations of the principals include architectural registration in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Vermont, NCARB certification, LEED BD+C certification as well as Unrestricted Construction Supervisor. The firm is certified MBE (minority-owned business enterprise) and DBE (disadvantaged business enterprise).

aF+S utilizes BIM (Building Information Modeling) software in the design and documentation of every project. This approach allows for each design to be thoroughly explored three-dimensionally and to be clearly conveyed to clients in a medium that is easily understood.
