Permit Extension Requested for Cambridge Lab Development
Cabot, Cabot & Forbes has filed an application for a two-year permit extension on the approved project planned for 180 Fawcett Street. Original plans for a 4-story lab project were approved in March 2022. The project has been delayed for several reasons including the Cambridge City Council moratorium on laboratory development issued in 2022. The new Alewife District Zoning was adopted in September 2023 and since that time the development team has been taking steps toward applying for a building permit. Per the filing however "Covid-19 pandemic conditions created significant obstacles with respect to the construction materials supply chain and labor market, many of which have persisted despite the waning of the pandemic. More recently, the well-publicized volatility of the capital markets has presented additional hurdles with respect to the availability of construction financing."
