Refined Plans Submitted for Charlestown Lab Development

Owens Companies, Inc. and The Fallon Company. have submitted refined plans for the planned 2-building lab development at 60-66 Cambridge Street in Charlestown. The project will include 802,000 SF of state-of-the-art life sciences/office/research and development space, generous publicly accessible open space (approximately 41,000 sf), a reduced parking count of 482 spaces, and 10,000 SF of retail/restaurant/commercial space to create an activated ground-floor experience. The updated plans create a greener, more accessible, and activated pedestrian and bike environment

As part of the project, the development team intends to center workforce development and “career ladders” in the project’s future operation and management. Since filing the PNF and ENF, the team has solidified a partnership with, Just A Start, to create a life-sciences-focused jobs training center prominently located within the development. The project will also be open to students in the Real Estate Entrepreneurship Youth Program, which seeks to equip local youth with the skills, knowledge, and mentors needed to participate in real estate investing. Given that The Fallon Company and Street2Ivy run this program each summer, the proponent will incorporate the project into the curriculum as a real-time learning opportunity for students throughout the life cycle of the project.
