This project involves the renovation of the facilities at an American University dormitory McDowell Hall. Per section 403.2 of 2015 International Plumbing Code (IPC) requires separate facilities for each sex and per section 403.1.1 to determine the occupant load of each sex, the total load shall be divided in half. YES Providing facilities that can be used by all genders is consistent with American University policy and recent renovations at the university. 2) Is the requested modification is in compliance with the intent and purpose of the Construction Codes? YES The modification complies with the intent and purpose of the Construction Codes as the number of fixtures will still be based on Table 403.1 of the IPC, but the fixtures will allow use by all genders as allowed in the 2021 IPC. 3) Does the requested modification lessen health, accessibility, life and fire safety, or structural requirements?
