About The Algonquin Club
217 Commonwealth Ave, Back Bay, Boston, MA
The property is home to The Algonquin Club of Boston. A private social club founded in 1886 by a group including General Charles Taylor. Originally a men's business club, it is now open to men and women of all races, faiths, and nationalities. The building features a 4-story, 36,370 square foot building that sits on a .23-acre parcel.
Its clubhouse on Commonwealth Avenue was designed by McKim, Mead & White and completed in 1888, and was soon called "the finest and most perfectly appointed club-house in America" and more recently the "most grandiose" of Boston's clubs.
The Algonquin is currently undergoing extensive renovations and is expected to re-open in 2020.
