Construction Kicks off for Ramova Theater Renovation
The development team along with representative from the City of Chicago celebrating the groundbreaking for the Ramova Theater earlier this week. The $28 million project will transform the historic landmark at 35th and Halsted into a block-long destination with a restaurant and a brewery that’s anchored by an 1,800-person performance venue.
City support for the project includes up to $6.8 million in Tax Increment Financing and the sale of City property, valued at $765,000, for $1. Opened in 1929, the theater has sat vacant since 1985. The City bought the theater in 2001 and has paid for its maintenance since, in anticipation of this day.
