Federal Officials Select Greenbelt, MD as New Home for FBI

Federal Officials have just announced that they have officially selected the City of Greenbelt in Prince George’s County as the new home for the FBI.

"Our city's unwavering dedication to the welfare of our citizens is the bedrock that ensures our collective progress. Working alongside the FBI, Governor Wes Moore, and Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, we will drive transformative community development for our region, catalyzing economic growth, opportunities, and social well-being for all our residents,” said Mayor Emmett Jordan. “This collaborative effort underscores our shared commitment to the FBI's essential mission of protecting our nation."

In the past few months, there was a strong Maryland legislative push to relocate the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) headquarters into one of the two locations in Prince George’s County, in Landover, MD or Greenbelt, MD. Members of Maryland's federal, state, and local governments include Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), Governor Wes Moore, Lieutenant Governor  Aruna Miller, U.S. Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Congressmen Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02), John Sarbanes (MD-03), Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Jamie Raskin (MD-08), David Trone (MD-06), and Glenn Ivey (MD-04), and Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks.

“We are thrilled to welcome the new FBI Headquarters to our community—a monumental decision that is poised to catalyze significant economic growth for our region and Greenbelt,” said Josué Salmerón, City Manager for the City of Greenbelt.

The location where the FBI building will be built is a walk away from the Greenbelt Metro. This project is expected to take a few years to complete. The new FBI headquarters is projected to bring thousands of jobs to the area, both during construction and as part of the FBI's ongoing operations. The development of this state-of-the-art complex, encompassing a vast area of 61 acres, is expected to represent a multi-billion-dollar investment in the region.
