450 Eleventh Avenue Update 10/11/21

Hudson Yards Hotel Tops Out

A 51-story hotel has just topped out near Hudson Yards at 450 Eleventh Avenue. When we last visited the site back in mid-July, the general contractor Atria Builders had formed approximately 42 floors of the concrete superstructure. Now standing noticeably taller, we can confirm that the tower has reached its final height of 642 feet.

Developed by Marx Development Group, the tower is set to become an Aloft hotel with 379 rooms. A global subsidiary of Marriott International; Aloft is a rapidly growing brand with over 200 locations spread across 5 continents. The hotels cater to younger travelers by offering affordable prices and vibrant atmospheres. This latest development will open as Aloft's 7th New York City location and the first within walking distance of Midtown Manhattan.

The hotel will include a rooftop terrace, business facilities, a bar & restaurant, and a ballroom. Situated directly across the street from the Javitz Center, and two blocks from the Hudson Yards mega-development, this location will likely be marketed towards business travelers and convention-goers.

If you look at the raw superstructure from some angles, you may notice a certain peculiarity where each of the floors appear to be molded in slightly varying and uneven shapes. Although it looks odd in its current state, this was done in order to sculpt the mounting surfaces for DSM Design Group's ripple-style facade. Branching off of this, it should also be noted that DSM is the in-house architectural firm for Marx Development Group.

Build costs for 450 Eleventh Avenue are expected to reach $368 million by the time the project completes. Since the tower is mostly just a hollow shell at this point in time, construction is estimated to last until 2023.
