National Geographic Plans Hotel Conversion for Part of HQ
The National Geographic Society has filed a zoning application to allow for a conversion of a portion of their 11-story building to a hotel along with the construction of a rooftop bar & restaurant. The National Geographic Society headquarters site is designated as an individual historic landmark, and the building, designed by noted architect Edward Durell Stone, is a contributing structure to the landmark. For the project, the Society proposes to convert the buldling in part into a hotel with a rooftop bar and restaurant. The proposed hotel will contain approximately 160 rooms on the upper floors, and the ground floor will include the lobby, two distinct gallery spaces, and part of a museum.
