National View gets 500 More Units; Possible Metro Stop
Petra Development has received approval for plans of seven buildings, including up to nearly 1,900 multifamily residential units, up from 1400 units from an earlier proposal, 289,000 square feet of office, and ground-level retail space. The site sits on 20 vacant acres just north of National Harbor.
The Prince George’s County Planning Board, who oversees the county’s planning and parks and recreation functions, has approved the plan, allowing the project to continue through more detailed phases of the entitlement process.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority floated the possibility of one day extending the Blue Line south from D.C. to National Harbor, on a route that potentially passing by National View.
Doing so could cost up to $25 billion for construction, as well as $200 million annually for operations and maintenance, according to a report released in September. This makes this prospect less viable than when initially proposed, before COVID halted ridership to less than a third of it was in 2019, in a struggle it has not recovered friom yet.
