Orange Station Developers Revise Plans

The development team of Orange Station, a new mixed-use development in The Edge District of downtown St. Petersburg, Orange Station, have announced revisions to the plans. Located on the site of the former St. Petersburg police headquarters, the original plans called for a mix of luxury condominiums, office space, workforce housing, ground floor retail space and a public plaza along with a 680-space parking garage. Citing rising interest rates and increased construction costs, the developers are eliminating the condominium component. The Residences at Orange Station was to be a 16-story building with 61 luxury condominiums. In place of the condominiums, the office building, which was originally designed for 50,000 square feet, will now include 125,000 square feet. Additionally, the development team of J Square Developers, DDA Development, and Backstreets Capital, LLC, announced that an Autograph Hotel will be added to the project. The Autograph Hotel, which will include a restaurant, bar, state of the art fitness center, meeting rooms, conference center and rooftop pool, will rise on a pad that was designated for an office building. Tampa-based Ellison Development has been added to the development team and will develop the hotel. The revised plans must go before the City Council for approval. Pending approval, construction could begin in the fourth quarter of 2023. Demolition of police headquarters began in Fall 2022.
