Pinellas County Commission Approves Funding for $110 Million Expansion of St. Pete-Clearwater Airport Expansion

 

 

Pinellas County Commissioners have given approval for the funding of a $110 million expansion of St. Pete-Clearwater Airport (PIE). Airport officials , released a request for proposals soliciting a construction manager for the project. Contractors must submit bids by May 24th. The expansion will include the addition of more gates for existing and future airlines, a new level for passenger boarding, space for new food and beverage vendors and a consolidation of TSA (Transportation Security Administration) checkpoints. Located on Tampa Bay, north of St. Petersburg, the airport is a 2,000-acre fully certified facility with 2 runways. It is home to the busiest Coast Guard Air Station in the world. U.S. Customs and the FAA-operated control tower are also important federal government services at the airport, along with the Airport Industrial Park.
