Plans Progressing for Construction of the Meltzer Center at American University
American University has submitted plans for the construction of the Alan and Amy Meltzer Center for Athletic Performance and the Sports Center Annex per the Campus Plan approved in 2021. The Meltzer Center will feature around 54,000 square feet of gross floor area specifically designed to address AU’s stated need to provide competition, practice, and training space for existing AU athletics programs that are currently not adequately accommodated in the Bender Arena and Sports Center. The Annex Building will include just over 33,000 square feet of gross floor area and is a key component of AU’s broader Student Thriving initiative. The SCAN Building will house critical student support services that promote and foster overall student well-being.
