Revised Plans for Condominium Development on Bayshore Rejected
For the second time, the Tampa City Council rejected plans for a new condominium tower on Bayshore Boulevard. Following a lengthy hearing, with testimony from the developers and citizens who opposed the project, the council voted 5-2 to reject the revised proposal. The tower was planned for a portion of the property of the Congregation Rodeph Sholom synagogue. Related Group had reached a deal to purchase a portion of the synagogue’s property. The development has faced opposition from neighbors, members of the congregation, and the neighboring Tampa Garden Club with the opposition stating that the project did not fit in with the surrounding area. In January 2023, the council agreed and voted unanimously to reject the plan. In March 2023, the developers submitted a revised plan, reducing the number of residential units from 60 to 42 and the height from 29 stories to 26. The revisions were not enough for those opposing the plan. Under the terms of the agreement, the synagogue would remain in its current building on the site, the section of the property to be acquired by Related Group is the parking lot and nursery school. The first floor would be a parking garage, which would include parking for the synagogue.
