Construction Remains on Schedule for Transit-Oriented Development in North Quincy
Callahan Construction Managers announces construction remains on schedule at The Abby, a transit-oriented development at the MBTA’s North Quincy Red Line stop. The project is approaching construction milestones including the completion of exterior finishes and façade work. The project is designed by ICON Architecture and developed in partnership by Bozzuto and Atlantic.
The new, mixed-use development will include three (3) apartment buildings with 610 units, 45,000 SF of retail space anchored by a Target store, a 1,314-space parking garage, including 852 parking spots for MBTA commuters.
Phase one (1) of construction remains on-time, even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Callahan has continued to work diligently on Building A, with the team finalizing the property’s exterior, and installing and painting windows and cabinets in the first block of units. The Abby’s garage also nears completion, with continued work on elevator installations. Foundations at the post-tension section of the amenity area of Building B are also underway.

The Abby aims to redevelop North Quincy Station by transforming a former bus depot and parking lot into a vibrant community that pays homage to the area’s rich history. Residents at The Abby at North Quincy Station will have access to many luxury amenities including two outdoor courtyards, pool deck, club lounge, entertainment kitchen, dog spa, bike fix-it shop, and a fitness center with active group fitness and studio areas.

Framing Kicks Off for The Abby: Target Announced as Retail Anchor Tenant
While an official groundbreaking ceremony was held earlier this week, framing has started for The Abby, the mixed-use project being built next to the MBTA North Quincy Station. The Abby, named for former first lady Abigail Adams, will also include 50,000 square feet of retail space. The development team announced at the ground-breaking that Target will anchor the retail component.
The new parking garage on the site is set to open first in summer 2020 with Building A (to include 218 apartments plus the Target) to follow in spring 2021. In total 610 units will be spread across 3 buildings plus the project will also include 1,519 parking spaces 852 that are reserved for MBTA commuters.
The Abby will offer residents an array of amenities including a fitness center with group fitness and studio areas, a solarium, a club lounge, an entertainment kitchen, billiards, a dog spa, a bike fix-it shop, an outdoor pool with grills, an outdoor dog run and two landscaped courtyards.
Work Begins on Concrete Podium for North Quincy MBTA Project
Construction on the site next to the North Quincy MBTA station is ongoing with the beginning of concrete cores taking shape and sections of the podium. The upcoming mixed-use project will bring over 600 apartments and 50,000 square feet of commercial/retail space to this former parking lot. The project will also include 1,600 parking spaces to replace the 852 that were previously on the site. Construction on phase 1 of the project is expected to be completed in 2020.

Construction Begins for 600+ Unit Development at North Quincy MBTA Station
Construction is finally kicking off for the upcoming redevelopment at North Quincy Station. Fencing is in place, existing lights and trees are being removed and deep drainage work is set to begin. This new development will consist of around 610 apartments, 50,000 square feet of retail and separate parking for MBTA commuters, residents, and retail patrons.
Resident amenities will include direct covered access to the Red Line MBTA Station, two outdoor courtyards and pool deck, nearly 20,000 square feet of indoor amenity spaces, including club lounge, commercial kitchen, solarium with outdoor access, co-working space & a fitness center with yoga and spin.
The development team would pay the MBTA a total of $230 million over 99 years and build a new parking garage on site. The deal would raise the City of Quincy's yearly property tax revenue by $1.6 million.
