During the height of the COVID pandemic, Aldon Electric remained actively engaged in The Abby project, a transformative multi-use community located in North Quincy, MA. This development, situated on a 7-acre site at the North Quincy MBTA station, replaced the former parking area. Comprising three interconnected buildings named A, B, and C, The Abby spans 820,000 square feet and includes 610 modern luxury rental apartments. Additionally, it features extensive amenity spaces such as a rooftop pool, outdoor lounges, two entertainment kitchens, a library, solarium, game room, lounges with fireplaces, fitness center, yoga room, pet spa, dog run, and a bicycle repair shop.
The retail component of The Abby encompasses 50,000 square feet, accommodating establishments like Target, Starbucks, CVS, and Paris Baguette. Residents benefit from direct access to the Red Line and share 1,600 parking spots, some of which are equipped with electric vehicle infrastructure.
The duration of this project spanned 3.5 years and coincided with the onset of the pandemic. Over eighty dedicated members of IBEW Local 103, with over 30% of them being Quincy residents, collaborated with Aldon at The Abby. Many of these electricians had previously worked on various city projects that were halted due to the pandemic. Under the leadership of Project Manager Alex Rodriguez, the Aldon crew successfully executed comprehensive electrical, telecommunication/data, fire alarm, and electric vehicle services.
Despite facing numerous challenges, including pandemic-related disruptions, Aldon achieved the successful completion of their project scope. Key electrical accomplishments included the installation of six pad-mounted 13.8kv utility transformers, three 4000 amp switchboards, three 3000 amp switchboards, over 350 feet of 1600 amp bus duct, more than 1000 panels/load centers, four 250kw generators, and over 13,000 light fixtures, including a custom-made amenities package and a state-of-the-art lighting control system.
