Construction Nearly Complete for Watertown Lab Project - Aldon Currently Working on Solar Install
Watertown’s life science cluster continues to grow with the upcoming addition of 66 Galen Street. Turnkey electrical & technology company Aldon Electric has completed their interior scope on the project, which included installation of all power and lighting from the 15kV utility vault through the 27,000SF mechanical penthouse. The power distribution scope included 7 switchboards, one of which is the 15kV switchgear in the utility vault, 2 15kV transformers, 4 runs of 480V busway, and 31 various panelboards throughout the building. Also installed was a 750kW diesel generator and 3 transfer switches for all emergency systems. The lighting system included 50 controlled zones in the main lobby and exterior landscape space, centrally controlled by two panels. Over 1,500 light fixtures were installed throughout the building and landscape space. Aldon Electric also installed the fire alarm system, which included approximately 450 devices, and the security system, consisting of approximately 290 devices across access control, CCTV, and intercom systems for the 220,000+ square foot development.
Aldon Electric is currently working on the photovoltaic system on site, which includes the installation of a 252 KW DC rooftop utility interactive photovoltaic system and 251 KWH AC energy storage system. The photovoltaic system consists of (595) 395 Watt rooftop mounted PV Modules and (32) 525 Watt terrace mounted PV Modules, as well as (4) Utility interactive 50 KW SMA Inverters. The rooftop modules are mounted with a fully adhered SolarStrap racking system (no ballast or screwed down anchor points within the racking system). Energy from the PV system will be sent to the utility grid via a 600 amp PV back feedable breaker, located in the main switchgear. The AC Coupled Energy Storage System (ESS) will only be charged by the available power from the co-located PV System. During evening hours or times when the PV system is not producing power, the ESS system will feed power to the building's electrical systems.
Aldon’s crew of 28 Journeymen and Apprentices provided the installation. The building will be LEED-Gold certified and provide tenants with various amenities, including over an acre of landscaped green space, a fitness center, an extensive bike room, and an on-site café. The core and shell of the building are expected to be complete in the coming months.
