The 53 Marlborough Street and 300 Berkeley Street buildings located in Back Bay have been home to the French Library since the late 1940’s. The French Library partnered with J.L. Dunn to combine these two historic buildings into one building. Among many complex structural elements was a 5 story / 9 stop elevator shaft which JLD erected in the center of the two buildings. The finishes in the building were designed to be a mix the original details (plaster crown moldings, original wood flooring banding) and elements of modern design (stainless kitchen counters, high gloss cabinetry).
