The ground floor of the project includes a wide range of services for both residents and neighbors including a Planet Fitness, bakery & café, bank, and dental and doctor offices.

Construction Set to Kick-Off for 55 Wheeler St. in Cambridge Crews are getting set for early-stage site work at 55 Wheeler Street in Cambridge. The 3 building project will feature over 500 apartments just minutes from Alewife Station. Amenities at 55 Wheeler are set to include 3 courtyards, one of which will feature a pool deck, a fitness center, media lounge, and a community kitchen with a dining area. 448 garage parking spaces would be located on-site, in addition to 562 long-term bicycle spaces and 54 short-term bicycle spaces.

Cape Cod 5 HQ5

Cape Cod 5 Opens Banking Center in Barnstable Last week, Cape Cod 5 celebrated the grand opening of their new “HQ5” on Route 132 in Barnstable. The 80,000 square foot headquarters will be home to over 300 employees and has been designed with employee wellness and sustainability in mind. Amenities within the 11-acre campus include a 217 car parking garage, walking trails, fitness center, community room, and outdoor courtyard. The new building also features over 16,000 square feet of solar panels on the roof which could generate over 400,000 kilowatts each year. Bridging the gap between sustainability and employee wellness the building also features View Glass throughout, which will automatically tint to allow in maximum natural light for the bank’s employees while cutting down on the need for artificial lighting and reducing HVAC costs.  “This new campus serves as a physical symbol of Cape Cod 5’s ongoing investment in and service to the unique communities of the Cape, Islands and Southeastern Massachusetts,” said Dorothy A. Savarese, Chair and CEO of Cape Cod 5. “The foundation of this headquarters building is actually the mission and values that have driven this Bank for 165 years. Union Point

Brookfield Properties & New England Development Named New Master Developers for Union Point Brookfield Properties in partnership with New England Development have been named the new master developer for Union Point in Weymouth. The group will be the 4th master developer for the nearly 1500 acre site. The decision comes months after LStar was terminated from the project in February 2019. Long term plans for the site call for nearly 4,000 housing units, up to 6 million square feet of commercial space, plus ample open space.

Whittier Choice

CO Issued for First Units at Whittier Choice in Roxbury Certificates of Occupancy have been issued for the first group of units completed as part of the Whittier Choice redevelopment in Roxbury. The multi-phased project will create a total of 387 housing units, a mix of affordable and market-rate apartments and condos.  The project will also include approximately 7,680 square feet of retail space.

Framing Underway for the Harold and Ronald Brown Family House in Brookline Framing is underway for the Harold & Ronald Brown Family House along Harvard Street in Brookline. The project will feature 62 affordable rental units for seniors plus 1,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. A new public pocket park will also be built on Harvard Street. 

1550 Soldiers Field Road & 21 Soldiers Field Place

Fire Alarm & Electrical Permits Pulled for 1550 Soldiers Field Road A series of permits valued at over $3.2M for electrical and fire alarm install have been pulled for the two-building project at 1550 Soldiers Field Road. The project will feature a total of 249 residential units. The larger building at 1550 Soldiers Field Road will include 211 apartments while a smaller building at 21 Soldiers Field Place will feature 38 affordable condos. A total of 175 parking spaces would be provided on-site, including a parking garage underneath the apartment building containing 148 spaces and a screened ground-floor garage within the condominium building containing 27 spaces. 

The Watson

The Watson Refinanced for $36.35 Million The Watson in Quincy has been refinanced via MassHousing for $36,351,000. The property features a 140-unit mixed-income apartment community that opened in Fall 2018 in Quincy. The Watson features eight studios, 85 one-bedroom, and 47 two-bedroom units. 26 units are offered at market rate, 86 are offered to households earning 110% of area median income (AMI) and 28 are offered to households earning 50% of AMI.  

Westminster House

Wood Framing Ongoing for Westminster House in Roxbury Wood framing is ongoing for the Westminster House along Washington Street in Roxbury. The four-story building will feature 32 affordable apartments along with a licensed childcare center, offices for administrative and service work, and several programming rooms. The new Elizabeth Stone House is expected to open in late summer of 2020.

Construction Nearly Complete for Vita JP: Just 16 Modern Condos Remaining Along Washington Street in JP, just a few blocks from Forest Hills, the new modern condo building, Vita, is wrapping up construction. BLDUP recently got a sneak peek inside the project with Lara Rosenburgh of Back Bay Development. The 82 residences at Vita, range in size from 1 through 3 bedrooms and offer custom cabinetry, quartz countertops, sleek baths along with large windows and ample natural light. The top floor corner units even offer an amazing Boston view. Rosenburgh tells BLDUP only 16 units remain available in the project, and they are just waiting on gas install to start closings.  Along with the stylish and comfortable residences we also had a chance to check out the spacious roof deck with adjacent lounge, sure to be a favorite spot for residents most of the year. The building also includes garage parking plus a pet spa and concierge service as additional amenities. The ground floor commercial/retail space at Vita is fully leased and will include a Planet Fitness (residents received a 2-year complimentary membership), Third Cliff Bakery & Café, The Cooperative Bank, Pure Dental, and Beth Israel Deaconess Health Care. When complete in early 2020 Vita will surely bring new "life" to JP. 

Haynes House Apartments

Work Ongoing for Facade Replacement at The Haynes House Construction is ongoing for the renovation of the Haynes House in Roxbury, originally built in 1974. The renovation plan will generally include significant building envelope improvements with the demolition and replacement of the building’s exterior masonry facade, 100% window replacement, and improved accessible front and rear entrances. It also includes required life safety system upgrades, energy efficiency enhancements, new accessible units, and selective unit and common area upgrades. The 7-story building features 131 affordable family rental apartments.

Whittier Choice

Interior Finishing Underway for First Phase of the Whittier Choice Redevelopment Interior finishing is now underway for the first phase of the Whittier Choice redevelopment in Roxbury. The redevelopment will create a total of 387 residential units plus around 7,600 square feet of retail space.  The new buildings will contain a mix of affordable and market-rate residential units ranging in size from studios to four-bedrooms.
