Construction Wraps Up for Cambridge Mixed-Income Project
Construction has wrapped up for Finch Cambridge, just blocks from Alewife Station. The new building features 98 apartments ranging in levels of affordability. Residents will enjoy a large multipurpose community room and a rooftop terrace. The property includes innovative green sustainable improvements throughout the building including, rooftop solar panels, high-efficiency heating and cooling, and healthy finishes throughout.
Three Buildings Under Review for Revere Side of Suffolk Downs Site
HYM has submitted plans for three additional buildings, 2 mixed-use, and 1 hotel, on the Revere side of Suffolk Downs. These submissions come on the heels of approval for building R-1 a 57,000 square foot office/retail/restaurant building. Check out full details on each building below.
The proposed mixed-use R-3 Building, designed by PCA, would range in height from 8 to 15 stories. This building would feature approximately 335,000 square feet of residential space, comprised of a mix of micro, studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units. The first floor of the building will consist of residential lobby spaces, retail and restaurant uses, approximately 32,000 square feet. The first three floors of the building would offer 191 parking spaces, as well as 7 additional tandem-parking spaces.
This proposed 8-story mixed-use building designed by Icon Architecture would sit on a 3.1-acre lot. This building has been designed to gradually transition the scale of the project from the low-rise R-1 Building to the taller structures proposed in the central portion of the Revere property. The R-9 Building will include approximately 328,000 square feet of residential space comprised of a mix of micro, studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units. The first floor of the building would feature around 29,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. A first-floor parking garage would include 190 spaces.
Designed by Procon, plans for Building R-2 call for a 6-story hotel building with first-floor retail space. The 77,000 square foot hotel would feature 159 rooms and include a restaurant/bar area with an outdoor terrace on the 5th level.
Fire Alarm Permits Pulled for The Abby
Permits valued at $1.128M have been pulled for fire alarm install within the 3 buildings at The Abby in North Quincy. The new, mixed-use development will include a total of 610 apartments, 45,000 SF of retail space anchored by a Target store, a 1,314-space parking garage, including 852 parking spots for MBTA commuters. The residential portion of the project will be delivered over two phases, with the first units available for occupancy in May of 2021 and the second phase in January 2022. The entire North Quincy Station Redevelopment project is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2022.
Site Plan Approved for First Building at Suffolk Downs
Revere has approved the site plan for the first building within the Suffolk Downs Redevelopment. Building "R-1" will include around 57,000 square feet of commercial space, office, retail/restaurant, and a multipurpose meeting space. A large, curved roof will cover the three-story building and distinguish the building as a place for new ideas and collaboration. On the southern side of the building, a series of steps leading up to a second-story terrace will overlook Beachmont plaza.
CO Issued for Portion of Units Within the Phase II of Orient Heights Redevelopment
Certificates of occupancy have been issued for 72 apartments & 8 townhomes within the redevelopment Orient Heights in East Boston. In total, the project will contain a total of 331 public housing units plus an 8,000 square foot community center and management office.
Newton Zoning Board Approves Mixed-Use 40B Project
Criterion Development Partners has won approval from Newton's Zoning Board of Appeals for a comprehensive permit for their 15 Riverdale project. The 40B project would include two buildings featuring a total of 204 apartments, 51 of which would be designated affordable. The development also includes 4,600 square feet of retail and community space. A new pubic courtyard will be located at the heart of the complex, providing a pathway down to the lush landscape along the Charles River.
Lowell Mixed-Income Community Receives $25.2M in Financing From MassHousing
WinnCompanies and MassHousing have closed on $25.2 in financing for the upcoming mixed-use project on parcels 8 & 9 in Lowell's Hamilton Canal Innovation District. The two-building project is set to include 125 apartments, including 54 new workforce housing units. The buildings will be linked by an enclosed sky bridge spanning Canal Street, a nod to Lowell’s history which will also complement the new signature bridge the city recently built over the Lower Pawtucket Canal.
Construction Remains on Schedule for Transit-Oriented Development in North Quincy
Callahan Construction Managers announces construction remains on schedule at The Abby, a transit-oriented development at the MBTA’s North Quincy Red Line stop. The project is approaching construction milestones including the completion of exterior finishes and façade work. The project is designed by ICON Architecture and developed in partnership by Bozzuto and Atlantic.
The new, mixed-use development will include three (3) apartment buildings with 610 units, 45,000 SF of retail space anchored by a Target store, a 1,314-space parking garage, including 852 parking spots for MBTA commuters.
Phase one (1) of construction remains on-time, even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Callahan has continued to work diligently on Building A, with the team finalizing the property’s exterior, and installing and painting windows and cabinets in the first block of units. The Abby’s garage also nears completion, with continued work on elevator installations. Foundations at the post-tension section of the amenity area of Building B are also underway.

The Abby aims to redevelop North Quincy Station by transforming a former bus depot and parking lot into a vibrant community that pays homage to the area’s rich history. Residents at The Abby at North Quincy Station will have access to many luxury amenities including two outdoor courtyards, pool deck, club lounge, entertainment kitchen, dog spa, bike fix-it shop, and a fitness center with active group fitness and studio areas.

Revere Grants Site Plan Approval for Phase 1-R of Suffolk Downs: Roadway and Infrastructure Improvements
Revere has approved the site plan for the roadway and infrastructure improvements for the Suffolk Downs redevelopment. The work will consist of the construction of a roadway network, utilities, and a stormwater management system for the expected 16.2M square-foot development. As part of the five-phase project, the first phase is also expected to contain 1,870 residential units, 540,000 square feet of office/lab space, 175,000 square feet of retail, 260 hotel rooms, and 2,032 parking spaces. Construction on phase 1 is expected to last through 2024 with the full project build-out going through 2040.
Plumbing & Gas Permits Pulled for Brighton Multifamily Project
A series of permits for gas and plumbing work valued at $3.545M have been pulled for the 2 building project at 1550 Soldiers Field Road. The larger building in the complex will feature 211 apartments with the smaller offering 38 affordable condos. Parking garages within each building will offer a total of 175 spaces.
$7.38M Construction Loan Secured for 21 Soldiers Field Place
SMC Management has secured construction financing of $7,380,000.00 for 21 Soldiers Field Place via Newburyport Bank. 21 Soldiers Field Place is set to include 38 affordable condos and will be part of the 2 building development with 1550 Soldiers Field Road, which would include 211 apartments. Both buildings within the project would offer garage parking and outdoor courtyard space for residents.
