Astoria Movie Studio Progresses Through Public Review

An application for the proposed, Wildflower Studios in Astoria, Queens has been steadily moving through the zoning process as it continues to check off boxes in the public review stage. The project was approved by the Community Board back in July and received a favorable vote from the Borough President shortly afterward. Fast-forwarding a bit to last week, the application was reviewed at a public hearing. It is now being reviewed by the City Planning Commission, which has up to 60 days to vote before passing it to the City Council.

The 495,000 sqft movie production studio is being developed by Wildflower LTD. Its design was created by the world-renowned architectural firm, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), in partnership with Hollywood elites, Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal. Wildflower Studios will have 11 sound stages, with extra tall floors, and a multi-story entrance that can accommodate large trucks for production operations. If all goes to plan, the project is approved, and construction proceeds without delays, the studio should open its doors sometime in 2023.
