Chevy Chase Library Redevelopment Update 05/02/22

Chevy Chase Library Redevelopment Could Get Multifamily Units

Montgomery County is evaluating the 16,000-square-foot library on Connecticut Ave. They are currently weighing the options of simply renovating the library or building a new one through a public-private partnership that would measure 20,000 square feet and be part of a mixed-use residential development. Proposals have been submitted to redevelop the Chevy Chase library site into a mixed-use property that includes a new library and affordable housing. The responses to a request for expressions of interest from the developers varied widely. Much of the public discussion regarding the options has to do with affordable housing options in the proposals. Currently there is a “placeholder” in the county’s capital budget for a “refresh” of the library in fiscal year 2027.
