Dana-Farber Cancer Institute & Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Plan Region’s Only Free-Standing Cancer Hospital

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center have submitted a Letter of Intent to construct the region’s only independent, free-standing inpatient hospital for adult cancer patients. The project would be located on the site of the existing Joslin Diabetes Center Building. The new 14-story building would contain 300 inpatient beds and 20 observation beds for DFCI, along with clinical support space on lower floors for BIDMC, and a below-grade inpatient imaging department for DFCI.  In a press release from last month, the organizations stated "the collaboration is designed to transform the future patient experience by improving access, by better integrating innovations at the bedside, and by offering high value care. Building on both Dana-Farber’s and BIDMC’s legacies of excellence in providing compassionate, world-class patient care and innovative research, the collaboration focuses exclusively on cancer care."
