Smithsonian's Bezos Learning Center Update 09/14/22

Design Submissions Unveiled For Smithsonian's Bezos Learning Center

A competition was held between 5 firms to design the Bezos Learning Center, an audacious addition to the National Air and Space Museum on the Mall in DC.

The competition withheld the names of the architectural firms until after public responses are surveyed.

The $130 million Bezos Learning Center will be funded by a $200 million gift from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.   First announced in 2021, it is the single largest donation to the Smithsonian since the Institution’s founding. The project will stand as part of a larger renovation project which began in 2018.

Expected to be completed in 2024, the center will host restaurants, exhibition spaces, a rooftop terrace, a public observatory, and outdoor dining and recreation areas.
