Elmhurst Charter School Gets the Green Light

An application for a 4-story charter school at 45-20 83rd Street, and an abutting residential building at 80-52 47th Avenue has just been approved for Elmhurst, Queens by the NYC Mayor's Office. Submitted by Sunshine Elmhurst LLC, the single application requested zoning map and text amendments to facilitate the construction of both buildings.

The Renaissance Charter School will be developed by Barone Management and is planned to contain 39 classrooms, 5 program rooms, a 6,000 sqft gymnasium, and a 3,000 sqft cafeteria. It will also have a sizable outdoor terrace and a courtyard. Designed by Stephen B Jacobs Group Architects, the structure will amass over 67,000 sqft.

The residential building at 80-52 47th Avenue will sit on the block behind the school, and occupy what was once the back half of a through lot. It will top out at 9-stories and contain 163 rental apartments. It will also have an underground parking garage with room for 72 vehicles. Stephen B Jacobs Group is responsible for designing this building as well.
