Progress for Elmhurst Charter School Development
Sunshine Elmhurst LLC's application for a development at 45-20 83rd Street in Elmhurst, Queens is making progress in the public review stage. The application requests zoning map and text amendments to facilitate the construction of The Renaissance Charter School and an abutting residential building at 80-52 47th Avenue. The City Planning Commission has now reviewed the application. The Borough President has also voted in favor of the project. Next, the application will be sent to the City Council for further review. They will have 50 days to hold a hearing and cast their own vote. The school itself will be developed by . It's planned to contain 39 classrooms, 5 program rooms, a 6,000 sqft gymnasium, and a 3,000 sqft cafeteria. It will amass over 67,000 sqft, even including a sizable outdoor terrace and a courtyard.
