Harvard University Allston Campus Master Plan Update 03/04/24

Harvard Presents 10-Year Master Plan for Allston Campus

Harvard has filed an updated Institutional Master Plan for the Allston Campus, detailing 6 projects, 3 of the 6 previously approved in the 2013 IMP. The previously approved projects include...

- Harvard Business School Faculty & Administrative Office Building: HBS intends to build a new 3-story, 110,000 SF faculty and administrative office building. The proposed site is in the northeast corner of what is now Ohiri Field and is directly north of the Harvard Innovation Labs / Batten Hall.

- Gateway Project: 300,000 SF mixed-use development at the intersection of Western Avenue and North Harvard Street. As currently planned, the project would include between 35,000 and 50,000 SF of retail/active ground floor space, and the upper floors are envisioned as institutional/mixed uses, which may include administrative or academic office space.

- Harvard Stadium Renovation & Addition: This project will provide improved accessibility for visitors, provide new program space, and continue repairs, maintenance, and restoration of the existing structure. The University also proposes the construction of a wide, shallow addition containing approximately 46,000 SF to the westerly side of the Stadium.

The three new IMP Projects to be include are...

- Tennis & Squash Racquet Center: Harvard is proposing to build a new racquet center on the site of the existing Beren Tennis Center in the Soldiers Field Athletic Area. The project includes the demolition of the existing building and the construction of a new facility of approximately 200,000 SF containing indoor squash and tennis courts, outdoor tennis courts, locker room facilities, athletic staff offices, team meeting rooms, as well as a pro shop for racquet equipment.

- Mignone Field Support Building: Harvard Athletics has expressed the need for a new facility to support women's rugby. The Mignone Field Support Building project will provide the team with locker rooms, coaching offices, a training room, sports medicine, and equipment storage. It will also include visitor amenities, including concessions, restrooms, and potentially other support uses and structures

- Crimson Catering: Harvard proposes to renovate the vacant commercial kitchen space at the rear of 168 Western Avenue to support the Crimson Catering operation of Harvard University Dining Services. As the site is currently located outside of the IMP Area, this proposed renovation and change of use would include extending the IMP Area boundary to incorporate this site.
