Holocaust Museum and Educational Center Planned in Downtown
The Holocaust Legacy Foundation, Inc. has submitted plans for The Holocaust Museum & Educational Center at 125 Tremont Street. The proposal includes the demolition of the existing three-story structure at 125 Tremont Street and building in its place a new, six-story, roughly 33,000 square foot sustainably designed building that will serve as a first-of-its-kind Holocaust Museum in Boston. The original 1880s granite foundation was retained in 1955 and will remain in place, maintaining the original 1880s foundational footprint and preserving the historical street-wall envelope of the original structure.
Per the filing, "With President Biden’s recent announcement of the first-ever U.S. National Strategy to Counter Anti-Semitism – the most ambitious, comprehensive effort in U.S. history to counter antisemitism – the Holocaust Museum and Educational Center is an extraordinary gift to the City of Boston."
