Housing Opportunities Commission Cuts the Ribbon for The Leggett

Named in honor of Montgomery County’s former County Executive Isiah “Ike” Leggett, “The Leggett” is a new 267-unit, 16-story, mixed-income development in the heart of Silver Spring, MD. It combines affordable housing for seniors with public health amenities to create a sustainable and vibrant community. The Leggett provides replacement housing for 106 former Public Housing units that were co-located in the 57-year-old Elizabeth House.

Adjacent to “The Leggett” is the 133,000 sq. ft. County-owned South County Regional Recreation and Aquatics Center (SCRRAC), which will include a state-of-the-art recreational facility with basketball courts, a public Olympic size pool, a therapy pool, a spa, a fitness center with lockers, an underground parking garage, and an amazing onsite management team. The SCRRAC is scheduled to open in the summer 2023.

Also,  “The Leggett '' will  include an integrated Holy Cross Hospital-affiliated wellness center and urgent care facility. This new senior center will offer an array of programs to help seniors get their mind and body fit, maintain their independence, and enhance their quality of life. Scheduled to open in the summer 2023.

An added PLUS. The Capital Crescent Trail (CCT) will be expanded to reach the apartment community. The CCT is a shared-use off-road trail from Georgetown, D.C. to Silver Spring, MD suitable for walkers, joggers, bikers, and rollerbladers. This significantly improves suburban living for our seniors.

All the rich amenities of “The Leggett” will invigorate the entire Silver Spring community and demonstrate how HOC’s partnership with the County is re-imagining affordable housing.
