Presidente Supermarket to Anchor Southplace City Center Tower

Urban Retail Properties, LLC (“Urban Retail”) announces the execution of a 15-year lease agreement with Presidente Supermarkets as the anchor of the first residential tower as Southland Mall evolves into Southplace City Center.

Presidente Supermarkets, a Miami-based company, will bring its renowned grocery expertise to SouthPlace City Center, occupying approximately 25,000 SF. The supermarket will play a vital role in shaping the live-work-play development and be an integral part of Southplace City Center.

“Retailers are looking for ‘live-work-shop-play’ communities, and that is exactly what Southplace City Center will become,” said Paul Motta, COO of Urban Retail Properties. “Adding Presidente as a key anchor tenant aligns with the vision for this project and strategically complements the existing retail.”   At full buildout, Southplace City Center is expected to provide its residents, tenants, and patrons a true “city within a city” experience, offering approximately 4,500 new residential units, new retail and restaurant concepts, and a wide variety of other offerings and amenities.

Presidente Supermarkets, founded over 30 years ago, was represented by Neyda Bravo & Luis Gonzalez of Bravo & Partners Realty, and currently operates dozens of stores in Florida and employs thousands of people throughout the state. Their family of supermarkets continues to expand, further solidifying their position as one of the largest Hispanic-owned supermarkets in the United States.

"We are excited to be part of this partnership and of the evolution of Southplace City Center,” said Presidente Supermarkets owner and founder, Omar Rodriguez. “Presidente Supermarkets is ready to continue investing in our community, through job creation and economic development in our neighborhoods.”

Electra America and BH Group, owners of Southplace City Center (Southland Mall), are fully committed to elevating the development into a premier destination. They are dedicated to breathing new life into a property that has been underutilized for decades and, in so doing, create thousands of new jobs and help alleviate the housing crunch facing many Miami-Dade residents today.
