Amazon Announces $9M in Donations to DMV Area Orgs in Honor of 2 Year HQ2 Announcement
Amazon has announced plans to donate $9M to local organizations in honor of its two year anniversary in Arlington. “It’s an understatement to say how excited we are about the progress we’ve made and how proud we are to be part of National Landing,” Brian Huseman, Amazon’s vice president of public policy, said in a statement. The $9M will be distributed as follows:
- $3M to legal service providers to help support families facing eviction challenges in the Virginia and D.C. region.
- $1M total to the organizations Bridges to Independence, Offender Aid and Restoration, and the Arlington Branch NAACP Scholarship Program that are advancing the cause of racial justice.
- $1M to community health facilities, the Arlington Free Clinic, Alexandria Neighborhood Health, Children’s National Hospital, and the Virginia Hospital Center.
- $500,000 to organizations providing job training and literacy programs, La Cocina VA, DC Central Kitchen, and the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia.
- $3.5M to be donated "throughout the region between now and beginning of 2021" for community organizations across the region supporting important causes like sustainability, small businesses, and veterans and military families.
