Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center Update 06/15/20

Reno & Addition Ongoing for Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center

The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center is currently undergoing a major renovation of its South Building, a 30-year-old building that needed system replacements and accessibility required modifications, as well as new exhibits. Concurrently, CambridgeSeven designed the new 16,000 square foot Vet Center addition in collaboration with architects of record, Waller, Todd & Saddler. The exhibit scope of work includes a new immersive Sea Jellies Gallery featuring half a dozen different species of jellies, an invertebrate, and venomous fish gallery called Undersea Superpowers designed in a comic book style, enhancements to the existing outdoor North American River Otter Habitat. The renovation includes dramatic upgrades to interior visitor experience as well as a new outdoor exhibit play area called Our Watershed that traces the journey of water from storm clouds in the mountains through rivers and streams to the ocean across a dozen interactive exhibits. The Vet Center addition adds state of the art clinical space for animal care and includes a Windows into Wildlife Care Exhibit that provides visitors interactive and role-play experiences and views into the new Vet Center labs. Construction is due to be complete 2021.
