About 15 Necco
5 Necco Street, Fort Point, Boston, MA
Original plans for 15 Necco called for General Electric to build out and occupy the 2.5 acre 390,000 square foot campus as their new headquarters. The parcel consists of two historic six-story brick Boston Wharf Company warehouse buildings at 5 and 6 Necco Street being renovated and a section of the existing Gillette parking lot where plans called for a new construction building.
In February 2019, GE announced they would finish renovations to the historic buildings but scrap plans for the new construction piece of the project. Then, in May 2019, GE sold the property and will now lease back the newly renovated historic buildings. The new development team, a partnership between National Development and Alexandria Real Estate Equities filed an NPC in November 2019 for minor changes to the new construction piece of the project. The new, 12-story, approximately 316,000 square-foot building would now be used as a multi-tenant office/life sciences/research and development building with active ground floor uses, such as retail and restaurant spaces within the southern portion of the Project Site (15 Necco Street). Because of the Project Site's proximity to public transit and nearby public parking facilities, the new building is not proposed to include any underground parking. The updated plans for 15 Necco Street were approved by the BPDA in September 2020.
