About Boston Children’s Hale Family Building

Boston Children’s Hospital, the world’s leading pediatric hospital, is constructing a new $1 billion state-of-the-art clinical building on its’ Longwood Medical Area campus. The 11-story building, which will also have four floors below grade, will expand the hospital’s bed capacity by 71, from 401 beds to 472 total. The building will also allow for the expansion of Children’s Hospital’s cardiovascular program and the establishment of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with individual patient rooms to support privacy.
The new clinical building will employ the most up to date, specialized technologies to care for Children’s Hospital’s most complex patients. A rooftop healing garden will be constructed at the top of the building, replacing the former Prouty Garden. The building is expected to be complete in the third quarter of 2021.
