With Allen and his brother Donald at the helm, Aldon has been powering Boston’s top projects for 38 years, growing from 2 employees to 200+ tradesmen and professionals in the electrical contracting business. Aldon is a turnkey company, offering a powerful combination of experience and expertise that delivers exceptional performance, quality and value for customers.

BLDUP: Aldon Electric has been in business for 38 years, what factors have contributed to the longevity of your company, and how has the firm transformed through the years?

Allen Mullaney: Hard work, long hours, and building a great team have been key. We also strive to treat employees the same way we would want to be treated. Aldon has longevity with our employees, some of whom have been with us for 20 and 30-plus years. I’ve seen them come into the trade as apprentices and truck drivers. Now they are running projects, estimating, or working as project managers. They all have homes and are married with children - some of whom are attending the apprentice program and college. It’s very gratifying to see this growth.

BLDUP: You also provide security services [under V2 Systems], what new technologies/trends are you watching/utilizing for clients?

Allen Mullaney: V2 Systems, a subdivision of Aldon Electric, is a Full Systems Security Integrator. V2 is utilizing the latest technologies in Mobile and Biometric credentials for Access Control. As for CCTV and surveillance, we are seeing increased utilization of cloud-based VMS (Video Management Systems) with advanced analytics such as Artificial Intelligence object detection, people counting, and more.

BLDUP: Given your position working with many of the top GCs and developers in the Boston area, what are you seeing in the market with current conditions?

Allen Mullaney: While the construction market seems to be changing from the prior years, we are optimistic for future opportunities.

BLDUP: Tell us about a project you are excited about.

Allen Mullaney: Suffolk Downs – R9 is a new construction  “multi-use” building consisting of ground-floor retail spaces and 475 residential units. Aldon is providing turnkey integration of electrical, fire alarm, security, and telecommunication systems. This is the first building to be completed on the Suffolk Downs development, which is exciting to be involved in. This project is in the works now. 

Sturbridge 6.7 MW Photovoltaic System (16,718 panels) - aggressive three-month building schedule - Aldon was recommended for the project to the GC (Empower Energies) because of our past results in delivering solar projects with tight schedules and this project is beginning now. 

40 Thorndike - extensive complete renovation of existing Cambridge courthouse/jail into mixed-use 540,000 sqft space - being part of the renovation of this iconic structure makes us excited. This project is in the works now.
